Real Skateboards was created by Jim Thiebaud and Tommy Guerrero, who at the time resigned from partnership with Powell Skateboards. The company was created because at the time, skateboarding was not seen as "raw" but extremely commercialized. Real has sponsored professional riders such as Peter Ramondetta, Dennis Busenitz, and James Hardy.
